What to eat pre and post workout and why its important
We get asked all the time what is best to eat pre workout and post workout. The simple answer is it all depends on what time of day your working out and what you can manage to fit in before hand.
Some people train late evening which means they can afford to eat before the gym but sometimes skip a meal afterwards because they think its too late to eat. The most important time to eat is post workout as this is when your muscles needs the nutrients the most.
For Pre workout a more carbohydrate based meal is appropriate as your body will utilise the energy more for your session as fuel. The idea is that you have more energy for your session so the intensity doesn't drop.
For post workout a mixed amount of carbs and protein is suggested. Most people intake protein in the form of Whey protein shake. Rather than having a full meal after. Some people have fruit or oats after a workout... others have sweet potato or gummy bears. The key is to find out what works best for you!
